INTERVIEW MIT ROU REYNOLDS und RORY CLEWLOW VON ENTER SHIKARI AM NOVA ROCK FESTIVAL
14. - 17. JUNI NICKELSDORF
First, how are you guys? Do you like it here?
Rory: It’s awesome but really hot. We played a show about an hour ago and really enjoyed it. The crowd was amazing. I can’t complain.
Last year you released your new album „The Spark “. What is different to the ones before?
Rou: It was recorded with a different producer and studio. There were lots of different influences. We wanted to simplify everything and make an album that concentrated on melody. I think most people absorbed it as quite a different album.
Rory: In previous albums Rous lyrics have always been more like global issues this is more like his personal experience. Everyone always expects the unexpected when releasing an album.
You have a favourite song from the new album you like to perform live?
Rou: For me it is „Undercover Agents “. It’s not fully positive it is a bit nostalgic, a bit heart-breaking but still quite hopeful.
Rory: Form me it’s „Take my Country Back “. It’s really fun to play.
I watched some of your live shows before. You have such an energy on the stage. Where do you take it from?
Rory: We get a lot of energy from performing the music we made in front of an audience and getting the vibe from them back. Your body and instrument express the Music.
Rou: Music and dance have been so tightly together since the beginning of our species and in a lot of early language the word for music and dance was the same word. That’s the way to present your melodies and rhythms.
You will be at the signing tent afterwards. Is it important to connect with your fans?
Rou: "joking" No, not really.
Rory: "laughs" He is always so nice. I generally prefer doing it before a show because you can interact with them and when you see the crowd it makes you feel you know the people.
You also have crazy stalker fans?
Rou: No because I think that is because we make ourselves available. Online and in real live. If people want to meet us they don’t have to scream and sneak around. We will be at the festival tonight watching bands. We will be walking around and talking to people.
Is there anything special you connect Austria with?
Rou: It’s quite pretty. Beautiful country with lots of greenery. Schnitzel. Camo & Krooked
I have seen you with a blue cup on stage. What was in it?
Rou: Always Gin and Tonic. Nothing else. I had a Gin last night it was a clear bottle and when you shake it there was all glittery. Sparkling gin is my new thing.
Are you going to play more festival shows this summer?
Rou: Many. Like two or three every weekend. It’s the best part of the year.
Is it better to play only the weekends?
Rory: Yeah. You get a rest and can go home and chill out during the week. At festivals you never know what to expect. Like what is backstage going to be like or how the crowd will be. There are always interesting things happening.
So that was it. Thank you for your time and enjoy the festival.
Both: Thank you.
